Choosing the right breast implant is one of the most important decisions that you’ll need to make before scheduling your breast augmentation. It is not a decision that should be made on your own. Even if your twin sister looks great with X implant, it doesn’t mean that X is necessarily going to be right for you. This is why I always recommend scheduling an in-person consultation with a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon, such as myself, who specializes in breast surgery. While I typically prefer a silicone gel breast implant, there are many different kinds. One that has been available in Europe, but only recently received FDA approval in the US is the Motiva® silicone gel breast implant. As the first surgeon in Boston to offer this cutting-edge option to my patients, I have a lot of experience placing these implants. So, are Motiva® implants the best silicone implants? It depends.

Benefits of Motiva® Silicone Gel Breast Implants in Boston

The best breast implant for you is going to be one that suits your unique anatomy, desired outcome and lifestyle. However, there are numerous benefits to choosing a Motiva® breast implant. These include:

  • Delivers a soft result that looks and feels more natural
  • Reduces the risk of post-op complications, including capsular contracture
  • Made of high strength cohesive gel for longer lasting result
  • No risk of visible rippling

The most important of these benefits for most of my patients is the fact that the Motiva® implant can more closely mimic the look and feel of their native breast tissue. They also come in a wide variety of sizes, profiles and shapes, allowing me to truly customize your end result. Furthermore, patients who choose the Motiva® Ergonomix shape like the fact that it can adapt to different movements — looking round when lying down and tear shaped when standing.

What Makes Motiva® Different?

One of the things that sets the Motiva® implant apart from other silicone gel breast implants are its technical advancements. These include:

  • SmoothSilk® surface to improve tissue integration and reduce inflammation which results in a softer feel and a reduced risk for capsular contracture.
  • TrueMonoblock® shell that integrates the shell, gel and patch into a single, cohesive unit, creating a more durable, flexible implant that may be placed through a smaller incision.
  • ProgressiveGel® fill that more closely resembles the feel of real breast tissue.
  • BluSeal® is a safety measure that allows for visible confirmation that the implant’s barrier is in tact.

Is Recovery with Motiva® Implant Faster?

As mentioned, one of the advantages of choosing a Motiva® implant for your breast augmentation is that we may be able to place it through a smaller incision. While incisions on the breast tend to heal quite well and I pride myself on practicing the kind of precise surgical technique that places as little tension as possible on the surface of your skin, which is what may contribute to a raised scar, it always helps to start with a shorter incision line. In terms of your recovery, however, I have not found the recovery with Motiva® to be necessarily faster. I tell all my breast augmentation patients to expect a return to work after 1 week and most exercise after 3-4 weeks. However, most agree that this is a minor inconvenience for a rejuvenated body contour.
