What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are gel-like substances that can be injected to accomplish a number of different cosmetic goals, including enhancing volume, reducing lines and wrinkles, and reshaping the facial contours. Fillers are used to perform non-surgical versions of many common aesthetic procedures, including facelift surgery, rhinoplasty, and chin augmentation.

While some fillers like Restylane and Juvederm are formulated with biocompatible hyaluronic acid to smooth the skin and plump depleted facial areas, others are engineered as biostimulators to encourage the renewal of collagen, the underlying skin protein that supports a supple and youthful facial structure.

What are the benefits of dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are highly versatile and treatment comes with a number of key benefits:

  • Non-surgical and non-invasive
  • Painless with no downtime
  • Designed to reduce the signs of aging
  • Erases lines, creases, and folds
  • Restores volume in the lips, cheeks, jawline, and temples
  • Used in non-surgical rhinoplasty, facelift, and chin augmentation
  • Little to no risk of allergic reaction
  • Enhances self-confidence
  • Creates a more youthful, inviting appearance
  • Results can last 6-24 months

Is there any downtime after dermal fillers?

Fillers do not typically require any recovery. Patients can resume their normal schedules directly after their sessions. In fact, many patients come in over their lunch breaks to receive their filler injections. Mild swelling, redness, or tenderness at the injection sites are common side effects but they are not usually severe enough to warrant any downtime. Ice can be applied to the skin after treatment to soothe any lingering discomfort. Our team will provide a thorough aftercare plan for you to follow based on your unique treatment plan and the fillers chosen to achieve your new look.

What injectables are offered at the Boston Center for Plastic Surgery?

Our team of board-certified plastic surgeons and beauty experts have meticulously curated an arsenal of the most innovative and effective injectables on the market today. Below, you can read a brief description of each one. We consistently attend industry seminars and conferences to stay abreast of the ever-evolving field of cosmetic technology and constantly update our treatments to reflect the newest, groundbreaking aesthetic solutions as they become available to the public.

BOTOX & Dysport

BOTOX and Dysport are leading neuromodulators that interrupt nerve signals telling the brain to contract the tiny facial muscles. Once the muscles have relaxed, the skin smooths out to reveal a more rested and attractive countenance. Both injectables are ideal for combating frown lines and crow’s feet.

Like Juvederm and Restylane, Belotero is formulated with biocompatible hyaluronic acid to smooth and hydrate the complexion. Belotero is a go-to solution for correcting moderate-to-severe entrenched lines, wrinkles, and creases. It can successfully treat lip lines, nasolabial folds, and marionette lines.

The Juvederm family of fillers is engineered with hyaluronic acid, a hydrating and nourishing compound found naturally in the skin. As the body ages, its supply of HA declines. Juvederm restores a radiant, youthful complexion by boosting volume while erasing lines and creases.

Lip Augmentation

Dermal fillers can be used to not only boost lip volume lost to the aging process but to also counter vertical lip lines, loss of lip definition, and an ill-formed Cupid’s bow. Lip fillers are typically made with hyaluronic acid, a compound that replenishes moisture, leading to a more alluring and inviting smile.

Liquid Facelift

A liquid facelift can be performed using a combination of dermal fillers and neuromodulators. Fillers can address static lines and wrinkles while simultaneously improving balance and harmony among the features. Neuromodulators focus on dynamic lines that form while the face is in motion.

Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty

A non-surgical or liquid rhinoplasty is performed to correct imperfections in the nasal bridge and tip, creating a more balanced and harmonious profile. The chin may also be augmented with fillers during this procedure to further enhance your results.

Restylane is a family of HA-based dermal fillers that has become synonymous with a youthful, revitalized complexion. Each filler is uniquely engineered to address a specific cosmetic issue, whether it be volume loss, lip deflation, or the appearance of unwanted lines, creases, and wrinkles.

Restylane Lyft

Restylane Lyft’s distinctive formulation delivers remarkable changes lasting up to 12 months. The filler is perfect for replenishing volume in the cheeks and midface, correcting under-eye hollowness, and softening moderate-to-severe facial creases.

Additional Injectables Offered At Boston Center for Plastic Surgery

Radiesse is a unique filler formulated with microspheres of calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA), a compound that is known to trigger the regeneration of collagen and elastin, key youth-enhancing proteins. Radiesse thus provides immediate improvements in the skin’s scaffolding as well as longer-term skin suppleness and luminosity.

Revanesse is a well-tolerated filler made with non-animal, cross-linked HA molecules. It smooths the skin texture, restoring a soft and supple surface with results that persist for up to 18 months. Revanesse is a top choice for treating glabellar lines in the forehead as well as nasolabial folds.

Sculptra addresses the root causes of aging – diminished collagen reserves – to produce profound improvement in the complexion. It is engineered with poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a compound known to boost the body’s natural production of collagen, smoothing and repairing the skin from within.

Teoxane is a non-animal, hyaluronic acid-based filler, frequently chosen to nourish and hydrate depleted skin contours and minimize the look of dark circles beneath the eyes. Results with Teoxane can last up to 18 months on average. It is one of the few fillers whose results can be reversed with enzyme-powered hyaluronidase.

Volbella is a dermal filler from the Juvederm family that was created specifically to combat loss of lip volume. It can replenish lip moisture, erase lip lines, combat the effects of sun damage, and reverse signs of aging that have compromised your once-youthful smile.

Vollure is a Juvederm product designed for the correction of lines, creases, and folds around the nose and mouth. Its durable and stable consistency make it ideal for boosting volume and rejuvenating the facial contours. Vollure uses cutting-edge VyCross technology to ensure its seamless integration into the skin.

Like Vollure, Voluma is formulated using advanced VyCross technology that cross-links HA molecules to achieve enhanced skin integration. The filler effortlessly improves the complexion without reducing spontaneity or individuality. Voluma results can last up to 24 months, making it among the most cost-effective fillers available.
