Who is the ideal candidate for facelift in Boston?

Men and women of all skin types and backgrounds can be candidates for facelifts in Boston. The ideal patient should be in good health, clearly understand the procedure, and have realistic expectations. Commitment to post-operative recovery is crucial. While a facelift offers excellent results for most, those with poor tissue elasticity or seeking extensive correction may benefit from alternative procedures.

What is the procedure like?

Our surgeons perform facelifts in our fully accredited surgical suite at Boston Center for Plastic Surgery’s Chestnut Hill office. Typically lasting two to three hours, the procedure is performed under IV or oral sedation, ensuring minimal discomfort. Thanks to this outpatient surgery, patients can leave the office after a short post-op period.

What is the cost of a facelift in Boston?

Costs vary based on individual needs and chosen techniques. Our all-inclusive pricing covers surgical fees, anesthesiologist costs, facility fees, medications, surgical garments, and follow-up care. While cosmetic surgery is generally not covered by insurance, our team can provide referrals if applicable.

What are the recovery and results for a facelift?

Our surgical facelift in Boston boasts a rapid recovery period, usually lasting one to two weeks. While mild bruising and swelling are expected, they typically resolve within 7-10 days. Patients are advised to limit strenuous activities and exercise for the first two weeks, but many are ready to return to work in less than a week. Proper care of incision sites is essential to minimize complications.

The results are subtle yet transformative, reducing superficial wrinkles and rejuvenating your appearance. Although the skin continues to age, our surgeons recommend non-invasive services like Botox, filler injections, medical facials, and laser treatments to maintain youthful results.

Facelift FAQs

How long do facelift results typically last?

Most patients enjoy their results for seven to ten years. Skin quality, sun habits, and overall health all play a role, and those who take good care of their skin tend to see results hold longer.

Will I have visible scars after a facelift?

Incisions are placed along the hairline and around the ears so they stay hidden in natural contours. Scarring typically fades over several months, and most patients find them barely noticeable or easy to conceal.

What are the risks associated with a facelift?

All surgery carries some risk. With a facelift, that can include temporary numbness, bruising, asymmetry, or infection. Serious complications are uncommon, and working with a board-certified surgeon experienced in facial procedures keeps those risks low.

Does smoking affect my ability to have a facelift?

Yes, significantly. Smoking reduces blood flow to the skin and slows healing, which raises the risk of complications. We ask patients to stop smoking before surgery and stay smoke-free throughout recovery.

Is there a right age to have a facelift?

Not really. It depends more on what you're seeing in the mirror than on your age. Most patients are in their 40s to 60s, but we've performed successful facelifts on patients younger and older than that range.

How do I prepare for facelift surgery?

You'll receive detailed pre-op instructions, but the basics include stopping blood-thinning medications and supplements, quitting smoking, and arranging for someone to drive you home and stay with you the first night.

How does a standard facelift differ from a deep plane or mini facelift?

A standard facelift addresses the lower face and neck. A deep plane facelift works at a deeper level, repositioning muscle and fat for more significant correction that tends to last longer. A mini facelift is a lighter procedure for patients with mild early sagging who aren't ready for a full surgery.

What sleep position should I use after a facelift?

Sleep on your back with your head elevated for at least two to three weeks. Lying on your side puts pressure on the incisions and can cause uneven swelling. A recliner or extra pillows makes this much easier to stick to.
