Facial rejuvenation is one of my passions. As a Double Board-Certified Facial Plastic Surgeon, I love helping my Boston area patients to diminish any disconnect between how youthful they feel on the inside and their outward appearance. I pride myself on delivering a meticulous, elegant result that will keep you looking like you, just the most relaxed, confident version of you. While most of the facial rejuvenation patients who come in to see me are well versed in the various physical aspects of a facelift, many do not take into account the emotional component. There is literally a psychology to change. Part of my practice philosophy is to guide my patients every step of the way and this begins with the initial consultation.

Facelift Consultation in Boston

Saying that the internet has changed the world is a bit of understatement. It’s hard for the younger generation to even understand that gathering information used to be cumbersome. Furthermore, with something like aesthetic surgery, there was no real access to the breadth of a surgeon’s results unless you knew someone who had work done. And even that was dicey because patients were not as open about procedures as they are today. So, the web has been a game-changer as it allows you to research the various facial rejuvenation options that seem to fit your needs. However, this is not a substitute for an in-person consultation as any treatment plan is only effective if it suits your unique anatomy, lifestyle and desired outcome. During our initial meeting, I will listen attentively to what bothers you about your appearance, paying close attention to the various emotions that may arise. We will discuss any resistance or shame that you may feel at the idea of having “work”, and whether or not you are comfortable with a surgical option. I will then perform a physical exam to assess:

  • Degree and location of loose, sagging skin
  • Volume loss
  • Fine lines & wrinkles
  • Muscle laxity in lower face and neck

Last, we will go over in detail the facial rejuvenation options that could deliver on your goals.

Trust Between Patient and Plastic Surgeon is Paramount

Other than allowing me to truly assess your physical needs, another critical component to the in-person facelift consultation is it allows us to start to develop a bond of trust. The relationship between plastic surgeon and patient is incredibly intimate. In order for me to do my job to the best of my ability, you will need to be incredibly vulnerable and honest about your:

  • Sense of self worth
  • Fears
  • Lifestyle choices
  • Ability to follow post-op guidelines

I will be seeing you at what you may perceive as your “worst”. So, it’s important that you believe in my care, and that I am here to help guide you towards the new you. This includes not just your physical journey but also your emotional one as well.

What Patients Feel Before vs. After a Facelift

As mentioned, I have a long history delivering exemplary facial rejuvenation results. This has given me a good overview of the meaningful emotional journey that a facelift patient undergoes. In general, here is what you can expect. Once you make the initial commitment to a procedure, there is a rush of excitement. Then, the nerves kick in. This is completely normal and to be expected. It can be hard to dive into the unknown. You can do all the research in the world, but at a certain point, you need to let go and trust that I will get you safely to the other side. And I will which is why after surgery, you can expect to feel profound relief. This is often followed, however, by some doubt as you enter what I like to call the “swelling phase”. This is the body’s natural way of healing, but it can be frustrating to see. Patience is definitely a must as is being kind to yourself. But believe me when I say that your healing process will progress to the point where you feel confident and aligned with the rejuvenated version of you.
