Facial rejuvenation has evolved greatly during my career as a Board-Certified Facial Plastic Surgeon. Not only have there have been huge advances made in the realm of non-surgical facelift procedures, but new surgical techniques, such as the Deep Plane Facelift and the Deep Plane Neck Lift, can produce radical rejuvenation while still looking completely natural. At Boston Center for Plastic Surgeon (BCPS), our goal is for you to always look like you — just the best version of you. Personally, I believe that every patient should have the right to share or not share his or her rejuvenation journey. As an early advocate of many of the game-changing non-surgical facial rejuvenation techniques such as microneedling and layering procedures for a facelift-like result, I know how profound the improvement can be for the right patient. However, I also know that a facelift is still the gold standard when it comes to turning back-the-clock. Many patients are concerned about scheduling and will ask me: “What is the best time of year for a facelift?”. It really comes to your schedule, but winter in Boston can be the ideal time for facial rejuvenation. Here’s why.

Why Winter May be Best for a Facelift in Boston

Winter in Boston is not for the faint of heart. The snow, ice and sleet can make navigating the city less than fun. And if you are not a fan of outdoor winter activities such as skating or skiing, all of that time indoors can make the months between January and May feel like eternity. However, all of the above factors may also make winter the ideal time for scheduling your facelift. While many of the new facial rejuvenation techniques have seriously cut down on recovery time, any surgical procedure is going to require some downtime for your skin and tissues to heal. Furthermore, protecting your incision lines is crucial for achieving the result that we both want. Avoiding the sun is imperative as it can slow down healing and may adversely affect scar formation. So, one of the nice things about a good Boston winter is:

  • Sun is less intense
  • Fewer daylight hours
  • More time spent indoors than outdoors

Beginning Months of the Year are a Natural Time to Reset

Another factor that can make the winter months a great time for a facelift is that it is intrinsically a time for rebirth. We’ve all read the slogans: “New Year, New You”. The first few months of any year are a natural opportunity for change and evolution. Furthermore, many patients embrace a slower pace after the holiday rush which is the perfect mind set for recovery. Not only can facial rejuvenation be a fabulous gift to yourself, but so is embracing the downtime. Catch up on those books you’ve been dying to read. Nap during the afternoon. Put aside your “To Do” list and just focus on yourself. This is something that many of us so rarely do in our rush, rush society.

Wearing Winter Layers Can Mask Areas of Healing

The third factor in favor of scheduling your facelift or neck lift during winter is the fact that it is completely natural for you to be wearing layers such as a:

  • Turtleneck
  • Scarf
  • Hat

All of which will naturally hide any tell-tale signs of recovery such as stitches or areas of redness where your skin and tissues are still healing. So, if you have been dreading the onslaught of the cooler months, think about them as a time to hit the refresh button in every way. You can schedule your facelift and spend the darker months recuperating. Then, in the spring, you can unveil the new, refreshed you without anyone being the wiser unless you choose to tell them.
