A nose job or rhinoplasty is an incredibly powerful surgical procedure that can improve both the look and function of your nose. Due to its location in the center of the face, the size and shape of your nose may have a disproportionate affect on facial harmony. This is why even a slight bump can make you feel less like yourself. As a double Board-Certified Facial Plastic Surgeon, one of my passions and specialties is rhinoplasty surgery. I am adept in all of the various techniques and here is the thing about any aesthetic procedure, including the nose job — there is no one size fits all. I always individualize a rhinoplasty to your unique anatomy and needs. Though all of these options make for better outcomes, they can also be confusing for my Boston area patients. For example, what makes an ethnic rhinoplasty different than an ultrasonic rhinoplasty? The first is a specific type of rhinoplasty while the second is a specific technique.
What is an Ethnic Rhinoplasty?
As a non-caucasian, I am acutely aware that each ethnicity has its own characteristics that must be maintained if you are to have a natural-looking result. This requires a surgeon with the technical skill, as many non-caucasians have weaker cartilage as well as thicker skin, and the artistic eye to create a nose that maintains your ethnic heritage while also delivering on your desired shape and size. An ethnic rhinoplasty may be an ideal choice for those patients who hail from the:
- Middle East
- Africa
- India
- Asia
- South Asia
- Latin America
- Mexico
My goal with any ethnic rhinoplasty is to improve the shape of your nose without erasing your cultural heritage. In order to do this, I may perform an ultrasonic piezo rhinoplasty.
Benefits of Ultrasonic Piezo Rhinoplasty in Boston
As mentioned, I am board-certified in both facial plastic surgery, and head and neck surgery, which includes the ear, nose and throat. This is one of the things that makes me extremely adept in rhinoplasty. Furthermore, one of the many advantages of board certification is on-going training in the latest techniques which is why I was one of the first surgeons in Boston to offer my patients the cutting- edge Ultrasonic Piezo Rhinoplasty. This is a specific technique that uses a piezotome, or ultrasonic device, as opposed to a scalpel. The advantage of ultrasonic energy as a shaping tool is that it allows me to be extremely accurate, selective and precise in terms of the cartilage and bone that I remove. As an exemplary rhinoplasty result can literally come down to millimeters, this kind of control is a huge benefit. In addition, more precision means less trauma to the tissues which may result in a faster recovery as there is generally not as much swelling and bruising as with a traditional rhinoplasty. So, in summation, an ultrasonic piezo rhinoplasty may be my technique of choice in order to deliver your best ethnic rhinoplasty result.
