The area between your hairline and the top of your eyebrow works hard everyday. You probably don’t even realize how often you lift and scrunch the skin and tissues here and frankly, you shouldn’t. This is an area that is directly linked to expressing your emotions. So, there should always be movement in order to look natural. However, even if you are diligent about getting Botox® and/or dermal fillers regularly, there may come a time when sagging skin in your forehead requires a more robust facial rejuvenation procedure. A brow lift is a surgical procedure in which I lift and tighten the skin and tissues above your brow in order to restore a more youthful looking countenance. So, who is the best candidate for a brow lift? There is no hard and fast timeline as the efficacy of any aesthetic procedure is always going to depend on your individual anatomy, but here are some factors to consider.
Benefits of a Brow Lift in Boston
I am a huge advocate for scheduling an in-person consultation whenever you are considering any kind of aesthetic treatment, surgical or non-surgical. It is truly the best way to determine if your procedure of interest is actually a good fit for your anatomy, desired outcome and lifestyle. Having said that, there are some telltale signs that may make you a good candidate for a surgical brow lift. These include:
- Deep forehead wrinkles
- Heavy, “hooded” appearance to the upper eyelids
- Eyebrows that droop or sag
- Vertical “11” lines between the brows
- Tired or angry appearance even when you are neither
While a neurotoxin like Botox® is often the go-to treatment for the “11” lines and perhaps some mild to moderate forehead wrinkles, you may find that you have reached a point where this procedure no longer delivers the youthful looking boost that you desire. Furthermore, some patients do not like the “look” of a neurotoxin in their forehead as it may flatten out the brow, changing the appearance of their eyes. The benefit of a brow lift is that it allows me to address all of these aging issues in one procedure. The end result is a more lifted looking brow. This can open up the appearance of your entire eye making you look and feel more vital, rested and energetic. A brow lift will also smooth out moderate to severe forehead wrinkles and reduce any heavy appearance to the upper eyelid while still allowing for totally natural movement.
Best Candidate for a Brow Lift
The best candidate for a brow lift in Boston is any man or woman in good overall health. By this, I mean someone who:
- Does not smoke
- Eats well
- Stays hydrated
- Practices good skincare
It is important with any aesthetic procedure that you have realistic expectations. I will spend considerable time during our consultation and pre-op appointments going over what this procedure may achieve for you as well as a detailed timeline for your recovery. Patience is always critical with any surgical procedure as you need to give your body time to heal. However, my patients are generally so thrilled with their outcome that they say that any wait is well worth it.
