Staying active is one of the best things that you can do for your overall health. Whether you like running, walking, or lifting at the gym, a consistent exercise regime can make your heart happy, your bones stronger, and your sleep deeper. It may also be a big boon in terms of keeping your weight stable. However, just because someone is “fit” does not mean that he or she isn’t a candidate for liposuction.
It may seem counterintuitive for active patients to turn to surgical fat reduction, but even a small amount of fat in the wrong place can mess with someone’s ideal body contour. Women are often frustrated by unwanted pockets of fat on their abdomen and hips, while for men, a frequent trouble spot is the chest. In many ways, it makes perfect sense for fit people to desire liposuction. These are patients who take their body contour seriously and work hard to look and feel their best. So, if that’s you, here are some factors to consider.
Why Fitness & Liposuction Make a Good Team in Boston
As mentioned, the benefits of fitness are myriad and may include one or more of the following:
- Lowers overall cholesterol, especially triglycerides
- Improves the efficiency and strength of the heart muscle
- Reduces risk for stroke
- Lowers high blood pressure
- Controls blood sugar & insulin sensitivity
- Helps with weight loss
- Strengthens bones
- Helps to reduce both stress & anxiety
These are all excellent reasons to embrace a daily exercise regime that induces both aerobic and anaerobic activities. But just because you may be in the best shape of your life does not mean that you aren’t a good candidate for liposuction.
One of the many reasons why I love performing liposuction on my Boston area patients is that it’s such a precise technique. It literally allows me to sculpt your body into its ideal contour. With fit patients, I am not removing a large amount of fat as there isn’t generally a lot of excess. But as mentioned, even a little bit of extra fat in the wrong spot may adversely affect how you look and feel. And why work out so hard only to be bothered by unnecessary lumps and bumps?
Liposuction Procedure & Recovery
I perform all of my liposuction procedures in an accredited surgery center (ASC). In some cases, we may be able to do the procedure under local anesthesia. This is something that I will discuss with you in detail during your initial consultation. I also offer my patients a wide range of liposuction techniques, including:
- Tumescent Liposuction
- Syringe Liposuction
I may also combine liposuction with Renuvion® which is an effective non-surgical procedure for skin tightening. The appropriate treatment plan for you will depend on your anatomy, desired outcome, and lifestyle.
While liposuction is a surgical procedure that requires a series of small cuts in the skin through which I insert the cannula, these incisions are so small that they don’t even need stitches. However, this is a procedure that does demand a commitment from you in terms of recovery. Regardless of the amount of fat that we remove, you will need to wear a compression garment 24/7 for about 3 weeks and then 12/7 for an additional 2 months. The garment is non-negotiable as it aids in healing and managing post-op discomfort by reducing swelling. It is also imperative for delivering the exemplary final result that we both want, and most patients agree that it is a small price to pay for that perfect physique.
