Man receiving injectable treatment

18 Jun 2026 | by Leonard Miller, MD, FACS, FRCS

Up until the last decade, the predominate portion of my Boston area patients were female. There are a number of reasons for this discrepancy. Number one is probably that women tend to be more proactive about taking care of themselves. Of course, this is intimately tied to the fact that society, as a whole, is less tolerant of women looking their age than men. But this does not mean that men don’t want to look and feel like the best version of themselves. Unfortunately, there also existed an unfair bias against men who had “work” done. The internet and social media, however, have totally changed the plastic surgery landscape. Today, people online talk openly about their aesthetic procedures, normalizing something that used to carry more of a “stigma” for men in particular. This goes a long way towards explaining the significant uptick in men seeking out aesthetic procedures, particularly ones that do not require downtime for recovery. Here are the best non-surgical facial rejuvenation options for men.

Botox® & Dermal Fillers Ideal for Men in Boston

Though many men and women are interested in facial rejuvenation options, men typically want to do so with as little muss and fuss as possible. By this, I mean that they want a procedure with minimal to no downtime. Injectables, which includes:

This is probably the most popular procedure among my male patients. A neurotoxin like Botox® works by minimizing the movement of the underlying dynamic muscles in the treatment area, smoothing out the surface of the skin. Extremely effective for improving fine lines and wrinkles, you do want to see a very experienced injector, such as myself, or anyone on the team at Boston Center for Plastic Surgery (BCPS). In order to achieve a natural-looking result, proper placement is critical. This is also true for dermal fillers which work by filling in areas of lost volume. Typical treatment areas include:

  • Mid-face/cheeks
  • Temples
  • Naso-labial folds
  • Jawline

Again, it is important to see someone with considerable experience as there are different fillers for different issues. I also think it’s helpful for your injector to be a plastic surgeon as he or she will have a deeper understanding of facial anatomy.

Intense Pulse Light (IPL)

Intense Pulse Light (IPL) is a great procedure for addressing a number of different skin tone and texture issues at once. Unlike a laser, which utilizes a single wavelength of light, IPL uses multiple wavelengths at the same time which allows it to improve:

  • Sun spots
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Redness
  • Broken blood vessels

IPL is often an entry point for male patients who are new to aesthetics as it is an effective way to reduce many of the early signs of aging, including uneven skin texture, with little to no downtime.

CO2 Laser Resurfacing

Another popular procedure for men in Boston is a CO2 laser skin resurfacing procedure. This will require more downtime than injectables, which can truly be done during your lunch hour, but the results are well worth it. The benefits of a CO2 procedure include:

  • Improves sun damage, wrinkles, texture & skin laxity
  • Helps reverse years of damage from outdoor exposure
  • Reverses some of the earliest signs of aging
  • Creates noticeable results without surgery

A CO2 procedure is extremely popular among men who want to look refreshed without looking done.
