There is not a one-size-fits-all procedure for improving the appearance of your skin. Every patient's needs are unique as there are a variety of factors that can influence your skin tone and texture. These include genetics, which is not something that can be changed, but also lifestyle choices such as the right skincare regime, diet, hydration, the amount of time you spend outdoors and whether or not you live in or near a big city with a lot of pollution. As a Board-Certified Facial Plastic Surgeon who was one of the first to introduce the microneedling procedure to this country, I have a deep understanding of the pros and cons of microneedling with radiofrequency (RF). This is a procedure that can radically improve skin tone in the right patient. Figuring out whether or not microneedling with RF is the best option for your skin should always begin with an in-person consultation.
Microneedling with RF Consultation in Boston
The power of social media influencers on aesthetic procedures for the skin is undeniable. While I like the fact that patients are more aware of the available options for improving skin tone and texture, the pitfall of getting your information solely from the world wide web is that it isn't personalized to your individual anatomy, desired outcome and lifestyle. This is why an in-person consultation is so vital. During our meeting, I will listen to what bothers you about your appearance. We will go over, in detail, your:
- Medical history
- Family history
- Diet
- Daily water intake
- Skincare regime
- Prior procedures, if any
I will also perform a thorough physical exam to assess:
- Degree & location of skin laxity, if any
- Sun spots
- Hyperpigmentation
- Redness
- Fine lines & wrinkles
Together, we will discuss whether or not microneedling with RF is the best option for your skin's needs.
Benefits of Microneedling with Radiofrequency (RF)
As mentioned, in the right patient, a microneedling procedure with radiofrequency (RF) can deliver significant improvement in skin tone, specifically. This is a procedure that may be excellent for:
- Lifting mild skin laxity
- Stimulating collagen production
- Improving the early signs of aging
- Addressing acne scars
- Diminishing the appearance of fine lines
- Decreasing pore size
Microneedling with RF can be an ideal choice for collagen remodeling and skin tightening. However, if your primary concern is a texture issue, such as sun spots or crepey looking skin, then you may be a better candidate for an appropriate laser procedure.
Lasers May be Best for Skin Texture Improvement
Patients don't always realize what a debilitating affect poor skin texture can have on not just how you look physically, but also how you feel mentally. Laser skin resurfacing with a CO2 laser is my go-to for rejuvenating your skin's texture. It is better than microneedling with RF for improving:
- Wrinkles
- Sun damage
- Crepey skin
The results can be pretty dramatic and although it is a procedure that will require some downtime for recovery, most patients find the trade-off of seriously noticeable results to be well worth it. If your major concern is more about pigmentation issues then an Intense Pulse Light (IPL) may be the best choice. At the end of the day, Boston Center for Plastic Surgery (BCPS) has a full range of non-surgical procedures for skin rejuvenation. The key is to just find the right one or ones for your needs.
