Motherhood can come with many blessings. The adverse effect that the weight gain/loss of pregnancy may take on the skin and tissues, however, is not one of them. This can be particularly true for women who’ve had multiple children and/or children later in life. Your skin naturally becomes less resilient with age as the body’s levels of collagen and elastin start to decline every year after 25. These two are responsible for keeping your tissues looking lifted and plump so the end result of this tsunami of factors can be a moderate to severe amount of sagging skin in the abdomen and breasts, particularly. You may also have excess pockets of fat that are more visible and bothersome since the skin is looser. A Mommy Makeover is a combination of procedures to rejuvenate your body contour. Since every woman’s anatomy is different, choosing the appropriate menu of options for achieving your goals should always start with an in-person consultation.

Mommy Makeover Consultation in Boston

During our meeting, I will listen attentively to what bothers you about your body contour. I will ask detailed questions about your medical history, family history, any prior procedures you may have had as well as how your body recovered. I will definitely want to know whether or not you’ve had a caesarean. Then, I will conduct a thorough physical exam to assess:

  • Areas and degree of excess fat
  • Severity of sagging skin on the abdomen
  • Location of loose abdominal skin (above or below the bellybutton) • Possible Diastasis Recti or laxity of the abdominal wall
  • Nipple position in relation to the crease beneath the breasts
  • Breast volume
  • Skin tone & texture

Together, we will discuss the best combination of procedures for your unique anatomy, lifestyle and desired outcome.

What is a Mommy Makeover?

A Mommy Makeover can be any combination of procedures, but generally entails some type of breast surgery such as:

And a procedure to address excess fat and/or loose skin on the abdomen such as:

With my Boston area Mommy Makeover patients who require a tummy tuck and a breast procedure, I will often perform the two separately. The reason is patient safety. A tummy tuck is a robust procedure that requires more time in the operating room (OR), and it is safest to keep your total OR time below 6 hours. Furthermore, having surgery to both your abdomen and breasts can be a lot from which to recover. However, I typically can perform breast surgery and liposuction to the abdomen in a single session. All of this will be discussed with you in detail during your initial consultation.

Benefits of a Mommy Makeover

One of the things that I like best about a Mommy Makeover is that it allows me the most access in order to rejuvenate your entire torso. Your breasts and abdomen really work as a team so addressing the two together can deliver a truly “wow” result. Beyond the aesthetic benefits, my Mommy Makeover patients get such as huge boost in terms of energy and self-confidence. They will often thank me for allowing them to feel like themselves again. And when you take care of yourself, you help the entire family.
