Microneedling can be an incredible tool for improving skin texture and tone. As
with any aesthetic treatment, however, the key to an excellent result is in matching
the right procedure to your individual anatomy and needs. This is why I always
encourage my Boston area patients to schedule an in-person consultation. The type
of microneedling that is done at a MedSpa, for example, is very different from
what you can get with a plastic surgeon such as myself. I can perform a much more
robust procedure, Profound, that combines longer needles with radiofrequency
(RF) energy in order to achieve deeper rejuvenation. Matrix RF is a less intense
microneedling with RF option that can be ideal for improving surface texture and
moderate wrinkles. How do you know which is better for you? Here is a brief
overview of Profound vs. Matrix RF.

Benefits of Profound Microneedling in Boston
As the name implies, Profound is a treatment than can produce dramatic results.
Microneedling, in general, is an ideal procedure for treating the surface of the skin.
The benefit of Profound is that I am using longer needles than the SkinPen, for
example, with the added benefit of radiofrequency (RF) energy that travels through
the needles into the deeper layers of your dermis. Your body responds to this
“injury” by creating more collagen and elastin, two critical components of youthful
looking skin. The end result is tighter, more lifted and more radiant looking skin
and tissue. Furthermore, this rejuvenation will continue to improve over time.

Other benefits of Profound include:
• Performed in the office
• Non-surgical
• Big results with as little as one procedure
• Improves the appearance of cellulite
At BCFPS, we will often combine Profound with a surgical procedure such as a
facelift for a truly spectacular result. We typically recommend a yearly
maintenance treatment with MatrixRF in order to maximize the longevity of your
results. The only downside to Profound is that it does require more downtime for
recovery. Generally, you can expect some swelling, tenderness and perhaps
bruising for anywhere from 3-5 days.

Benefits of MatrixRF
MartrixRF is the latest, state of the art technology in microneedling. In this
procedure, one of our trusted estheticians, esthetic RNs or dermatologists will
administer short pulse RF energy through the thinnest microneedles on the market.
What makes MatrixRF cutting-edge is that within a single treatment, the needles
can be adjusted to three different depths and RF energy settings so that it is
completely customized to your individual needs. Best for improving overall skin
texture and addressing mild to moderate wrinkles, MatrixRF does require a series
of treatments in order to achieve your desired result. On the plus side, however, it
has shorter recovery time.
