One of the greatest things about the field of aesthetics is that we are constantly evolving. As a Double Board-Certified Facial Plastic, and Head and Neck Surgeon, I stay on top of the latest surgical techniques and cutting-edgetechnologies. I’m also always monitoring and aware of the latest trends in facial aesthetics. Right now, patients are embracing a more subtle and natural look. This lines up well with my personal practice philosophy which is to deliver undetectable rejuvenation. Rhinoplasty procedures, which alter the shape and/or function of your nose, are a bedrock of my practice so I have extensive experience in the full range of rhinoplasty techniques. The procedures require deep technical knowledge and a highly developed artistic eye. Finding a plastic surgeon with both is always important, but it can be particularly critical when your face is not white. A traditional rhinoplasty used to be a fairly “cookie-cutter” procedure that was geared toward the caucasian face. This obviously didn’t suit all patients. What makes an ethnic rhinoplasty different is that the focus is on preserving your unique facial characteristics.

What is an Ethic Rhinoplasty in Boston?

An ethnic rhinoplasty is literally a term used to describe the treatment of the non-caucasian nose. Unlike a traditional rhinoplasty where the approach may prioritize a more standardized nose shape, the goal of an ethnic rhinoplasty is to preserve your cultural identity. As such, the procedure is often more about refinement than a dramatic aesthetic alteration. An ethnic rhinoplasty can be an ideal option for patients who identify as:

• Asian
• South Asian
• Indian
• Hispanic
• Middle Eastern
• African American

My job with an ethnic rhinoplasty is to help you achieve a nose that is harmonious with your other features so that the end result still looks like you. An ethnic rhinoplasty can be combined with a functional rhinoplasty for any patient who has an issue with nasal breathing. While I pride myself on all of my work, I do feel as if I provide the best ethnic rhinoplasty procedure in Boston.

How is an Ethnic Rhinoplasty Procedure Different?

As mentioned, the aesthetic goal of an ethnic rhinoplasty is different from a traditional rhinoplasty as the purpose is to keep those facial characteristics that make you unique while subtly improving the appearance of your nose. It requires a more highly individualized surgical plan as there are specific factors, based on your ethnic background, that need to be carefully considered. These include:

• Skin thickness
• Cartilage structure
• Nasal bridge height
• Overall facial balance

In general, a non-caucasian nose exhibits both thicker skin and weaker cartilage. Improving its appearance, therefore, requires both surgical precision and a trained eye. So, in order to achieve an end result that provides you with both structural support and a natural look, it is important to see an experienced plastic surgeon, such as myself.
