Aging is never a one-size-fits-all process. No two people are going to age at the same rate. Lifestyle choices greatly influence how fast your skin and tissues show the signs of age as do genetics. Additionally, we all have our own unique take on aging. You may not be bothered by your fines lines and wrinkles while for someone else, it’s all they notice about themselves when they look in the mirror. This is why any facial rejuvenation treatment plan must be personalized to your unique anatomy, desired goals and lifestyle. Not every patient is a candidate for a facelift. Furthermore, some patients don’t want a surgical intervention, but still want to look and feel like the best version of themselves. At Boston Center for Plastic Surgery (BCPS), we offer our patients the full range of aesthetic options so that any treatment plan is customized to you. Here are some things to consider when it comes to facial rejuvenation.

Schedule an In-Person Facial Rejuvenation Consultation in Boston

To begin, I am a stickler about the benefits of scheduling an in-person consultation with a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon and/or Board-Certified Dermatologist, both of which we have in our practice. The benefit of seeing someone board-certified, such as myself, is that you know you are in capable hands as it takes considerable time, education and experience to pass your boards. Additionally, I always encourage new patients to go to a practice that offers the full range of aesthetic procedures. A med spa, for example, may be convenient, but since it only offers non-surgical options, that is the only thing they can recommend whether or not it’s the ideal treatment plan for your needs. Even if surgery is not something that you ever want, it is still important to get a realistic assessment of what any facial rejuvenation procedure can and cannot achieve.

During our meeting, I will listen closely to your concerns. I will inquire into your medical history, family history, lifestyle, and any prior procedures you may have had, aesthetic or not, as well as how your body recovered. I will then conduct a thorough physical exam to assess:

• Skin tone & texture
• Degree of fine lines & wrinkles
• Areas of volume loss
• Muscle laxity, if any
• Proportion of facial features

Genetics, lifestyle, skin quality and facial structure all influence how we age which is why a personalized approach is essential to achieving the natural, harmonious result that we both want.

Individual Attitude Towards Aging is Also Important

As mentioned, every patient also has his or her own distinct relationship to aging. My role as a plastic surgeon is to:

• Listen to your priorities
• Filter out any outside pressures and/or social-media driven expectations
• Recommend treatment options that will look natural and authentic

We all want to look and feel our best regardless of our feelings about cosmetic surgery. Rather than focusing on an isolated concern, I evaluate your face as a whole, taking into consideration all of the information that I’ve gathered as well as how you feel about aging. I then create an appropriate treatment plan to address:

• Volume loss
• Skin laxity
• Structural changes that occur over time

For some, this may mean skincare, injectables or energy based treatments. For others, a facelift and/or neck lift may be the most effective path. There is no “right way” to age. My goal, and the goal of any of my colleagues, is to support your comfort, confidence and individuality.
